Bill “Doc” Rosenblatt

Doc as he is affectionately called first paddled out on a surfboard in 1963 while staying with his Grandparents in Miami Beach. Though the waves weren’t great that experience would send him off to a path as a surfer an activist a traveler and an all around Ambassador for the sport of surfing. Bills roots in the Asbury Park run deep and as he has done everything from competing in the Central Jersey ESA District to advocating for surfing beaches to ultimately as the Mayor of Loch Arbour New Jersey the next door neighbor to Asbury Park. Bill also holds a Doctorate in Clinical Counseling from Lehigh University which landed him a career as a Psychologist working with local hospitals as well as a teacher at the University level.

As Mayor Rosenblatt worked  to keep local beaches clean and support all aspects of the ocean lifestyles he so dearly loved. His travel includes international destinations along with both coasts in the US with a short stint in the late 60’s surfing  the Malibu area while living in Topanga Canyon. Credited with co founding the Jersey Shore Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation Doc had taken on the job of getting more surfing beaches in the community, stopping the Core of Engineers from destroying the Loch Arbour Jetty which holds one of the best waves in the area and helping to get approval for the local surf school in Asbury Park.

Bill didn’t just focus on the local surf communities as a member of the Surfrider Board he helped to preserve surfing beaches in Hawaii along with his beloved Rincon, Puerto Rico when he spends every winter. Rosenblatt has received multiples awards from different ocean centric  groups who acknowledge his advocacy in keeping the beach’s in New Jersey clean and open for surfers to use year round. Doc is still an active surfer and you can find him surfing the jetties of his home town in the summer and the reef breaks surrounding the beaches of Rincon PR during the winter.
